Director Spotlight Danny Boyle

"I want my films to be life-affirming, even a film like Trainspotting (1996), which is very dark in many ways. I want people to leave the cinema feeling that something's been confirmed for them about life." Danny Boyle

28 Days Later is movie that brought Danny Boyle to my attention. It was basically the reinvention of the zombie film. It was so much more than a small group surviving for the night. The quote above I can see it in every one of his films. It is one of the things I enjoy about his films. I love a good underdog story.

Danny Boyle trademarks include:

Vivid and bright colors even when in contrast to darker things going on in the story. (Notice the colors in the palette at the bottom)

Quick jumps in editing and running shots

Use of flashbacks

Soundtracks and use of electronic music in his films

Unusual and sometime spiritual things usually not explained

Let's take a look at some favorites in chronological order of release date, notice the similarities in the screenshots of each movie.

I put all the screenshots together into one image and ran it through http://www.palettefx.com/ to get a color palette.

As I mentioned above there is a brightness to the colors in this image and if you look over all the screenshots they are all very vivid and sharp.

Two projects to look forward to from Danny Boyle are Porno, a squeal to Trainspotting and Steve Jobs, a biopic.
